Safety and use
Dilute Essentiqa essential oils in a carrier oil: a 1% concentration is about 3 drops per 10 ml of oil, and 2% is about 6 drops per 10 ml. For adults, a typical body concentration is 2–3%, for the face and sensitive skin 0.5–1%, and for children up to 1%. Jojoba, sweet almond oil or fractionated coconut oil all work well as a carrier oil.
Add 3–5 drops of Essentiqa oil per 100 ml of water to an ultrasonic diffuser. Keep a session to 30–60 minutes and air the room afterwards — longer continuous diffusing leads to smell fatigue and, for some people, headaches. Use only pure essential oils in a diffuser; fragrance oils can damage the ultrasonic plate.
No. Essentiqa essential oils should not be applied to the skin undiluted — they are concentrated extracts that can irritate or sensitise. Always dilute them in a carrier oil (usually 2–3% for adults), and before first use do a patch test on a small area of your forearm and watch the skin for 24 hours.
We do not recommend ingesting essential oils. Essentiqa oils are intended for diffusing and for external use once diluted. Taking oils orally carries a risk of irritating the mucous membranes and should only be done under the supervision of a qualified professional.
Essential oils are not used at all on babies under 3 months old, and for older children only selected oils at a concentration of up to 1%. During pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, talk to your doctor or midwife before using oils. If you are unsure about a particular Essentiqa oil, write to us before you buy.
Cats are particularly sensitive to essential oils, because their bodies metabolise some compounds differently from ours. Do not use tea tree, cinnamon, clove, thyme or oregano oils around cats. If you diffuse oils at home with a pet, keep sessions short, use a large room and always leave the animal a way out.
Phototoxic oils are mainly cold-pressed citrus oils, bergamot most strongly — the furanocoumarins they contain can cause discolouration and burns when exposed to UV light. After applying such an oil to your skin, avoid the sun and sunbeds for 12–18 hours. Citrus oils remain safe in a diffuser.
Quality and documentation
You can recognise a natural essential oil by its label: it must state the Latin plant name, the part of the plant, the country of origin, the extraction method and the batch number — and the producer should make the product documentation available. At Essentiqa you do not have to guess: we publish the IFRA certificate and the safety data sheet directly on the page of each of our more than 30 oils. Home tests, such as a stain on paper or a water test, do not settle whether an oil is pure.
The IFRA certificate sets out the safe concentrations of a given oil in cosmetics and fragrance products, and the safety data sheet (MSDS) describes its composition, hazards and how to handle the substance safely. Essentiqa provides both documents for each of its more than 30 oils — they are used by individual customers as well as candle makers, soap makers and cosmetologists who need to document the safety of their products.
An essential oil is a natural plant extract obtained by steam distillation or pressing, while a fragrance oil is a perfume composition, usually synthetic, made purely for its scent. Essentiqa sells only pure essential oils. The difference matters for equipment too: fragrance oils can damage the plate of an ultrasonic diffuser.
Shelf life depends on the type of oil: citrus oils usually keep their properties for 1–2 years, floral and herbal oils for 2–3 years, and woody and resinous oils such as patchouli, sandalwood or vetiver for as long as 6–8 years, gaining depth of scent over time. Store Essentiqa oils in dark glass, tightly closed, away from light and heat. An oxidised oil past its date is more irritating to the skin — do not use it externally.
Orders and delivery
We process Essentiqa orders within 1–2 business days. A courier or parcel-locker shipment usually arrives within a further 1–2 business days, so you will most often have your oils 2–4 business days after placing your order.
Yes — at Essentiqa you have 30 days to withdraw from the contract without giving a reason, counted from the day you receive your parcel (that is more than the statutory 14 days). The product must be intact and unopened, because essential oils are cosmetics. If your parcel arrived damaged or an oil has leaked, write to [email protected] — we look at such cases individually.
At Essentiqa you can pay by BLIK, payment card, instant bank transfer, Google Pay and Apple Pay, or with PayPo (buy now, pay later). You pay straight after placing your order, and we ship once the payment has been received.
